Welcome to the Auburn Journal’s “Noon Hour Update,” where we’ll present you with stories and updates on what’s going on in the news and what we’re working on for our Sunday and online editions.

What we’re working on: The second part of the Journal’s series on the proposed new animal shelter to be built in North Auburn runs Sunday. Reporter Gus Thomson will explore the balancing act between the need for a new shelter and the costs.

In Lifestyle read about the Wagons West Camp where visitors are transported back in time to a 1850s fictional Gold Rush camp to learn about the foothill region’s rich history.

In Sports, several local basketball standouts will be taking part in the Optimist All-Star Basketball games this weekend. Find out how our local athletes did.

What you’re talking about: Several of our stories have people commenting on them today. Our most discussed so far on Friday include our Community Portrait on Gene Baker and our story reporting on reaction to the same-sex marriage cases before the Supreme Court. Read these stories and more and share your thoughts.
