DAYTON, Ohio _ Rocklin’s Jade McVay joined her SyndiSpies Junior Dance Twirl teammates in capturing their second-straight national title at the United States Twirling Association championships Aug. 6. McVay was coming off an individual title in June where she won the Junior A Freestyle Championship at the Western U.S. Regional Competition in Newark. That earned her a spot in next year’s International Cup to be held in the Netherlands. SyndiSpies is the junior team (ages 13-16) of the Syndication Baton Club of Northern California. Joining McVay on the team were Kiera Holloway (Sacramento), Katie Yamanishi (Gold River), Brooke Goldberg (Baltimore, Md.) and Kaitlyn Turnbull and Brianne Turnbull, both of Fresno. The team is coached by Sandi Rios, Corey Kinyon-Cruz, and Monica Lee of Southern California. Rocklin’s Acceleration Baton team, Leah Mayer, Ava Casey, Ginny Schmidt, and Cassie Kinyon won the Western U.S. Regional Juvenile Dance Twirl Team title in June. They are coached by Kinyon-Cruz. They hope to compete at nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla., next summer. Kinyon-Cruz has a baton twirling beginner’s class starting Sept. 4. Those interested can sign up through Rocklin Park and Recreation.
