Rocklin Community Theatre’s production of “Nunsense A-Men!” will open Friday evening at Finnish Temperance Hall. Roseville resident Brent Null, who has been active in community theater for more than 25 years, is directing this production. “The company had a spot open in their schedule,” he said. “They had just finished up their teen production of ‘Footloose’ and wanted to offer something for adults.” Null said he has wanted to do this show for some time. “I’d wanted to do this show at Civic Theater West (formerly Magic Circle Theater), but the timing never worked out,” he said. Not only is Null directing the all-male cast, but he is also portraying Sister Mary Regina, Mother Superior. Joining him on stage will be James Shimp as ballet-loving Sister Mary Leo, Martin Lehman as mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert, Nick Adorno as befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia and Ryan Adame as street-wise Sister Robert Anne. “It has been a collaborative effort,” said the former director at Civic Theater West . “This is the first time I’ve worked with this group. It’s been a great experience so far.” “Nunsense” is a spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser. Sadly, the rest of the nuns died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia, Child of God. So, the surviving nuns decide to stage a talent show to raise funds to bury their dearly departed. “Nunsense A-Men” was written for an all-male cast, which allows for an “over-the-top” portrayal, Null said. “It’s a fun show with lots of humor and one-liners,” he continued. “The challenge is to be believable as women.” Richanne Baldridge is the music and vocal director of the Rocklin production. Show times are 7:30 p.m., on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 28 at Finnish Temperance Hall, 4090 Rocklin Road. Matinees will be presented at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. “It’s a limited run. We’re squeezing in eight shows in two weekends,” he said. “Ticket sales are going well.” Tickets can be purchased online at Rubino’s Ristorante is offering dinner and show tickets for $30.
