Looking for a change in career? Looking for a career, period? Iron that suit and update your resume for the Placer County Job Fair May 28. More than 40 companies will meet under one roof to talk to potential employees and offer career opportunities to hopeful attendees. Whether it’s a work from home job or going back to school, Kris Fuentes of the Placer County Office of Economic Development has invited companies like Aerotek and Caltrans as well as the University of San Francisco and University of Phoenix to accommodate job hopefuls in Roseville. Ten Tips on Getting the Most out of the Placer County Career Fair 1. Take a résumé class at the Roseville One-Stop Career Center, 1880 Sierra Gardens Drive, Suite 100, in Roseville. Sign up by calling 774-4074. Make sure your résumé is the best possible before you hand it out at the Career Fair and remember to bring extra copies with you. 2. Sign up for free résumé critiquing before the Career Fair. 3. Research attending companies before the event. A list of companies is available at placer.ca.gov/jobfair 4. Visit the company Web sites to apply online before the Career Fair. Most companies require an online application and they may not accept your résumé until you have completed their application online. 5. Practice a 30-second, self-introduction to help you market your skills to potential employers. Practice a firm handshake and making eye contact. Relax and smile. Make your first impression memorable. 6. Be prepared for an interview but don’t expect one. Dress in interview appropriate clothing and bring plenty of résumés. Target some résumés for companies of special interest to you and bring general résumés for wider distribution. 7. Leave children, family and friends at home. Treat your time at the Career Fair like an interview. Keep your contact professional. 8. Refrain from picking up items from the tables. Remember, you are there to find a job, not to pick up marketing items. 9. Attend the training and education panel presentation at the Career Fair from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. May 28. Hear about training opportunities from Golden Sierra Job Training Agency and local labor market updates from EDD. Discover if State Employment is right for you. 10. Have a plan. Arrive at 10 a.m. and plan to stay for the day. Bring water and a light snack to keep your energy level up. Talk to your most important companies first and make enough time to visit as many employers as possible. Pick up business cards or write down the recruiter’s name and phone number for follow up.
