Primary care physicians, specialists, lab, pharmacy, imaging all under one roof
As construction continues, the completion of the 66,000 square foot Placer Center for Health is projected for completion in the late summer. The center will be shared by UC Davis Health Systems and Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), which operates the Mercy hospitals locally. According to Nabil Musallam, UC Davis' senior associate director for clinical operations, both CHW and UC Davis are interested in expanding into the growing Rocklin area. We are both leasing in the same building and sharing some ancillary services, Musallam said. The first floor of the three-story building will house lab services, a pharmacy, and an array of diagnostic imaging services that eventually will include CT, MRI, ultrasound, general X-ray and mammography, while UC Davis primary care physicians and specialists will occupy the second floor with the CHW doctors on the third floor. Although the two healthcare firms have been associated in other ways, Musallam said sharing a facility in this manner is a new model for us. Cindy Holst, a spokesperson for CHW said the two organizations have a history of cooperating with on another. We are co-sponsors of Western Health Advantage, a health maintenance organization, she said. Both CHW and UC Davis are poised for expansion as the community grows - each has access to additional acreage nearby. We both felt there was a need for expansion in the South Placer area, Holst said. As Rocklin grows, so will we. According to a joint press release, the UC Davis practice will ultimately include 10 to 12 primary care physicians and up to five full-time specialists, plus their nursing and support staff. Specialties include family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, cardiology and oncology. It will also include an infusion center with 11 treatment stations, offering cancer patients the convenience of expert cancer care closer to home. Continuing, the press release outlines CHW's role as, Mercy's physician presence in the Placer Center for Health will be comprised of both Mercy Medical Group doctors as well as independent, Mercy-affiliated physicians.
