Placer SPCA waives fee for adoption of adult cats

Placer SPCA is making it even easier to adopt an adult cat this month. The organization is waiving fees for the felines adopted from its Roseville and Auburn locations. It is also collaborating with Placer County Animal Services, Friends of Placer County Animal Shelters, Angels Rescuing Kritters, A New Hope Animal Foundation, Humane Society of the Sierra Foothills, Auburn Area Animal Rescue Foundation and FieldHaven Feline Rescue. Those who adopt an adult cat can obtain a rebate voucher from the adoption agency and submit it to Placer SPCA in Roseville to receive a rebate check of up to $89. Cats must be one year of age or older and there’s a limit of two per household. Funding for the program is provided by a grant from the Placer County Animal Trust Fund, officials said in a press release. At the Auburn SPCA shelter, there are nearly two dozen adult cats waiting for adoption, according to Tiffany Rose, lead animal care technician. The new facility has been open since March 18 in the Creekside Center and foot traffic is slowing increasing, Rose said. “We’ve had 14 adoptions and get in about two people a day,” she said. “Definitely on weekends it’s a lot bigger and we have a couple more signs up now.” With kitten season starting to build, the SPCA is making an extra push to find homes for the older cats. “The cats are spayed or neutered before they go,” Rose said. “All their shots are up-to-date depending on how long they’re here. Everything they are of age to have, they have. They are microchipped and have a wellness checkout and get all the behavior assessments we have.” Even if April is not a convenient time to bring home a pet, you can almost always count on specials for adopting the older animals, she said. The Auburn Pet Adoption and Resource Center is at 1482 Grass Valley Highway, North Auburn, phone (530) 823-7722. It is open from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday-Saturday. ~ Gloria Young
