The guessing is over and the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section selection committee has made up its collective minds as to who got in the playoffs and who didn’t – and just where they fit in.
FOOTBALL _ Lincoln, Rocklin and Whitney are all in the playoffs. Lincoln is in Division III and Rocklin and Whitney were assigned to Division II.
The Fighting Zebras (5-5) come in seeded No. 15 and travel to Folsom High School to play No. 2 Vista del Lago (9-1) tonight at 7 p.m.
The No. 11 seed Wildcats (8-2) travel to No. 6 Del Campo (8-2) and the No. 13 Thunder (5-5) will visit No. 4 Antelope (9-1). Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
CROSS COUNTRY _ Lincoln’s frosh/soph girls qualified for sections as a team. The varsity’s Abi Lund missed qualifying as an individual by 18 seconds. Sophomore Evan Deatherage missed qualifying by 21 seconds.
Both Whitney and Rocklin qualified their boys and girls varsity teams in Division II with the Wildcats’ boys second and girls third. Whitney’s Jacob Zufelt was third overall and Rocklin’s George Miao eighth.
The Wildcats' girls were third and the Thunder fifth. Whitney’s Megan Hall was fifth individually. Rocklin’s top five runners were within 22 seconds of one another.
Also qualifying as a team were Rocklin’s JV, freshmen and frosh/soph boys. The frosh/soph girls qualified along with two JV girls as individuals. Whitney qualified its sophomore boys team.
GIRLS GOLF _ Whitney’s team took first at both the Division III tournament and Masters Tournament. Rocklin was third in the Division I tournament and third at the Masters Tournament. They now move on to State.
Lincoln’s Abbie Faingold and Kaitlin McKinney were eighth and 11th in the Division III tournament.
Lincoln, No. 4 seed, has advanced to the second round in the Division IV tournament and played No. 1 Vista del Lago Wednesday.
No. 12 Whitney defeated No. 5 Ponderosa (3-2) but fell to No. 4 McNair (2-1) in round two of the Division II playoffs.
GIRLS TENNIS _ Rocklin (SFL No. 2), Division I, defeated Tokay (TCAL No. 3) and Turlock (CCC No. 1) in rounds one and two but fell to (DVC No. 1) Davis Monday. Both Thunder wins were 8-1.
Whitney (CAL No. 3), Division II, beat Oakdale (VOL No. 3) 5-4 but fell to Bella Vista (CVC 1) in round two.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL _ In Division II, No. 6 seed Rocklin defeated No. 11 Tracy Tuesday in round one. No. 10 seed Whitney traveled to No. 7 Vacaville. The Bulldogs eliminated the Wildcats 3-1.
WATER POLO _ Although no local team advanced to the playoffs (Lincoln does not participate in water polo) Whitney High hosted the Division II girls and boys playoffs.
The girls second round was scheduled for Tuesday and the semifinals were scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 today. The boys were also scheduled for Tuesday and the semifinals at 10 a.m. and 11:15 today.
The finals for both divisions are at Woodcreek High School Saturday.
