SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities on Tuesday identified a 13-year-old girl found dead in a Fairfield park and released video images they say were captured minutes before she disappeared.
The naked body of Genelle Renee Conway-Allen was found Friday morning in Alan Witt Park, police department spokesman Sgt. Matt Bloesch said Tuesday. She was reported missing Thursday evening by her guardian at the foster home where she lived in neighboring Suisun City.
Surveillance video captured her minutes before she disappeared, Bloesch said. Her body was found by a passer-by in the park about three miles from where the images were captured.
The man who found the body, and a neighborhood resident who reported seeing a man standing by a car in the park about two hours before the body was found, have been interviewed by investigators. Police declined to release what information, if any, they obtained in the interviews.
Jac Davey, a resident of the area since 2008, told The Associated Press that he saw a man with his head down standing in front of a car in the park around 5 a.m. Friday.
"I've never seen anything like that, a guy just standing there with his lights on," Davey said.
"I have two daughters of my own, you don't want that in your neighborhood or anywhere," he added.
The girl's relatives said police had told them she was last seen after she got off the bus from Green Valley Middle School, where she was a seventh-grader.
"She had a hard life, and this is how it ends. It's tragic," her aunt, Natalie Paasch, 20, told The San Francisco Chronicle. "She was always the one looking out for her family, even when her family wasn't looking out for her."
Police have not said if they have identified a suspect, or suspects, but investigators were working around the clock on the case, Bloesch said.
"Our entire investigative division is working on this," Bloesch said. "Every division within our agency, and every person is either directly or indirectly assigned to this case."
An autopsy has determined how the girl died, but that information was not being released, Bloesch said.
Police expected to provide details about the case on Wednesday, Bloesch said.
