Hundreds showed up for a tour and barbecue last week at Rocklin Unified’s newest elementary school. Sunset Ranch Elementary School, which will open for kindergarten through sixth-grade students Aug. 17, will welcome approximately 420 students, according to Larry Stark, assistant superintendent of facilities and operations. Last Thursday’s event was a chance for students and parents to meet and mingle with the Sunset Ranch staff. Stark said it was a good turnout. “There were people all over the campus,” he said. The campus has the capacity to hold 750 students and will include smart technology in every classroom, three playgrounds, an outdoor amphitheater and other amenities. The school is located in the Whitney Ranch neighborhood of Rocklin. Earlier this year, Jim Trimble, principal of Rocklin Elementary School, was named principal of Sunset Ranch. He will split his time between the two elementary schools. Approximately 15 teachers will be transferred to Sunset Ranch. A Parent Teacher Club is in the works to help with fundraising efforts as well. During Thursday’s event, parents could purchase ceramic tiles to paint, which will decorate the exterior of the mulitpurpose room, Stark said. The city of Rocklin will also hold Kids Junction and preschool before and after school programs at the Sunset Ranch site, Stark said.
