Spring-cleaning could have more benefits than feeling a sense of accomplishment after de-cluttering your home — it could help educate Rocklin children. Saturday, Central Rocklin Self Storage will be holding a Recycle Day with a goal of raising enough money for the Rocklin Library to purchase an early childhood education computer. The program costs approximately $2,200 to purchase, but every little bit helps, according to Francine Yorde, president of the Rocklin Friends of the Library. “Whatever we get, that will help us buy one. Whatever we get, we didn’t have before,” Yorde said. The storage business, which is located next to the city’s new library, is doing things a little differently — they hope to hold some type of event monthly with profits benefiting local nonprofits. The Recycle Day is their first event giving back to the community, according to Connie Sanseverino, site manager at Central Rocklin Self Storage. Locals can drop off e-waste, including computers, cell phones, TVs, iPods, CD players, toner cartridges and other items from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the storage center parking lot. Central Rocklin Self Storage has teamed up with All Green Electronics Recycling for this Recycling Day. All Green recycles materials within North America and guarantees nothing goes into a landfill. All Green employees as well as library volunteers will be on-site to help people unload their e-waste materials. Also, for a $10 fee, people can feel at ease with recycling their old computers — the hard drive will be taken to a designated area for “data destruction.” Central Rocklin Self Storage also promotes recycling year-round with a storage unit devoted to e-waste for customers who rent space, Sanseverino said. “We’ve had a really, really good response,” she said. The business is under new management and one of their top priorities is to encourage giving back and being community oriented. They offer special rates for new customers, as well as people who have lost their homes. “We have a heart,” Sanseverino said. “A lot of our tenants are people who have lost their homes.” For people moving, on-site moving supplies are available such as boxes, packaging tape and furniture covers. The center houses 350 units that range in sizes. Recycle Day When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 19 Where: Central Rocklin Self Storage parking lot, 4267 Rocklin Road Information: (916) 624-1516
