Whitney High School played host to the Capital Athletic League swimming and diving championships this past weekend. Although Rio Americano swept both the boys and girls varsity divisions, the Wildcats’ program had its moments as well.

Whitney’s Lauren Votava took first in the girls 100-yard breaststroke coming in at 1:07.43. Her time was 1.14 seconds off the record. Jenna Loria was third in the event.

Votava also took second in the 200 individual medley about a second and a half behind the winning time.

She also swam the anchor leg of the 400 freestyle relay with Loria, Christina Daley and Haley Barker. The foursome placed second in that event.

Votava, Megan Green, Macie Lopez and Melissa Neadeau placed third in the 200 medley relay a little more than two seconds off the winning pace.

Barker swam to a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle and Daley did the same in the 50 free. Barker was fifth in that event.

Loria and Daley placed fifth and sixth respectively in the 100 free and Green garnered the five spot in the 100 backstroke.

For the boys, Dakota Loew was fourth in the 100 backstroke. Michael Ewing was fifth in the 200 free and Brennen Hanson came in sixth in that event.

In diving, Taylor Descheemaeker placed fourth off the 1-meter board.

Nine Wildcats have qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs. Qualification was not necessarily based on times or placement in the CAL Championships.
