The Sacramento River Cats have announced a new program to honor the top high school athletes of the greater Sacramento area. The team will host a first-of-its-kind event to celebrate the best players in the area on Friday night at Raley Field prior to the team’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Tacoma Rainiers. After working with a committee comprised of school and league administrators along with other area experts, the River Cats have named All-City teams in every boys and girls sport from the past school year. The club will also announce players-of-the-year for each sport and a male and female athlete of the year during the evening’s festivities. The local AAA baseball team will honor all of the selected student athletes at the ballpark on that night. The All-City athletes will be acknowledged in a pre-game ceremony at 5:15 p.m. that evening in the Foul Ball Patio on the left-field side of the concourse, and each sport’s player-of-the-year and the male and female athletes of the year will be recognized in an on-field pregame ceremony before the night’s contest. For more information on this event, contact Creighton Kahoalii of the River Cats at 376-4944 or by email at ckahoalii@rivercats.com.
