FIRST Robotics Team 3257 will host a mixer for prospective team members (in grades nine-12) and their families at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Fast Track Hobbies, 6831 Lonetree Blvd. The past three years, the team had been associated with Whitney High School, but FRC Team 3257 is now an independent organization open to a wider community of high school students.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded by Dean Kamen in 1989 to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership.
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a competitive sport. Each year’s challenge is released on the first Saturday in January, and the team then has six weeks to design and build their robot. FRC Team 3257 competes in the Sacramento Regional Tournament at UC Davis on March 21-23. The tournament is free for spectators and the public will be encouraged to attend with closed-toe shoes so they can tour the pits and see the robots up close.
