Rocklin American Legion Post 620 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 904 hosted the annual Veterans Day ceremony Sunday at the Rocklin Cemetery Veterans Memorial. Guest speakers were U.S. Army Lt. Col. John Cara (retired) and Rocklin Police Chief Ron Lawrence.

Veterans’ organizations continue to observe the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when the guns of World War I fell silent. President Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11, 1919, as the first commemoration for veterans. It was then known as Armistice Day. The word “armistice” was replaced with “veterans” in 1954. Thus Nov. 11 became the day to honor American veterans of all wars for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and even die to preserve our freedoms.
