Rocklin’s Posh Puppy dresses up Disney film
By: Lauren Gibbs, The Placer Herald
One Rocklin business got its movie debut recently with the DVD release of Disney’s “Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2.” The children’s film features many of the pooches dressed in clothes and accessories from Posh Puppy Boutique based in Rocklin. With more than 18,000 products in their online shop, Disney chose to feature many of the boutique’s products on screen, from costumes such as a hot dog outfit during a fashion show scene to dresses and track suits for dogs. Owner Jennifer Kirk said Disney contacted her in 2009 after making a large purchase of pet items. Kirk said costume designers for the Disney movie found her business to have the biggest selection of canine clothes and costumes. The partnership began with Disney and turned into one of the best business decisions for Posh Puppy Boutique, Kirk said. “It is probably the biggest thing we could have done in partnering with them,” she said. In return for supplying a number of products for the film, a Posh Puppy Boutique flier was inserted in “Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2” DVDs – reaching potentially millions of homes across the country. The two companies also came together for a giveaway, Funjet Vacations Beverly Hills getaway for four to Los Angeles. Hotel accommodations for four days and three nights are courtesy of Funjet Vacations and the winner will also receive pet-friendly prizes from some of the film’s partners. Posh Puppy Boutique opened its cyber doors in 2007 and is the brainchild of Kirk and her business partner Leanne Sublette. Kirk got her entrepreneurial start by selling children’s clothes on eBay for a few years before launching the online canine boutique. They also had a short stint with a kiosk at the Westfield Galleria Mall in Roseville, but found their products to be more profitable online, Kirk said. Posh Puppy Boutique products include vintage dog tees like Wonder Woman, sparkling collars, ballerina skirts and toys. But the items are not just geared toward small dogs, the shop also features a large dog section, because “big dogs need bling too” – the motto, Kirk said. In addition to the large selection of pet-friendly products, online chat sessions are also popular for customers with questions and Kirk prides herself on employees responding to e-mails within 24 hours, she said. “It makes it easier,” Kirk said. In the film, Posh Puppy Boutique products such as dog-friendly bride and groom costumes, sweater vests for dogs and pet costumes are seen on screen. The film features talking Chihuahuas using the voices of stars like comedian George Lopez. The giveaway runs through 11:59 p.m. on April 30. To enter and for rules, go to www.posh puppyboutique.com.
