Rocklin Academy spelling bee champion Sweta Parija will take the stage in Sacramento on March 2 to compete in the oral phase of the 28th annual Central Valley Spelling Bee. The best student spellers in the Central Valley will compete during the event at 9:30 a.m. March 2 at the Scottish Rite Center in Sacramento. The Rocklin Academy sixth grader is the only student from Rocklin who qualified for the competition by passing the Central Valley Spelling Bee written test in January. The Central Valley Spelling Bee champion will qualify for competitions leading up to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. “Rocklin Academy is honored and excited to have one of its own competing in the Central Valley Bee,” said Mary Decker, Rocklin Academy principal. “Sweta has worked very hard in preparation for the competition with support from her parents, teacher and schoolmates.” Sixth graders from the Rocklin Academy Meyers Street campus will attend the California Central Valley Spelling Bee to cheer on and support Parija. Rocklin Academy is a elementary charter school in Rocklin. ~Staff report
