Pitching and home runs rule
The Rocklin All-Stars began their District 11, Area 1 Majors All-Star tournament with a 3-1 victory over Tri-City Tuesday. All four runs of the game were the result of home runs. Tanner Ashby put Rocklin on top in the bottom of the third-inning with a two-run round trip over the right center-field fence. Pinch hitter Brooks McKeighan added an insurance run in the fourth-inning with a towering solo shot that nearly went over the pines that surround the outfield. Tri-City broke into the scoring column when A.J Huggins sent out a solo-home run to make the ball game 3-1. Huggins? teammate Nick Eaton was 2-for-3 and was the only player in the game to get more than one hit. Tri-City appeared to be making a comeback when the next batter hit a rocket that bounced off the outfield fence. However, the throw to second caught the runner trying to stretch the hit into a double. Pitching was the story of the game as Rocklin?s Andrew Mooney was exceptional in five-innings of work. The starter allowed two hits, no earned runs and struck out eight. Tri-City?s bullpen also recorded eight Ks. With the win, Rocklin advances to play the Lincoln All-Star team Thursday. The winner of that game will advance to the championship game on Saturday. Tri-City will be forced into an elimination game with an Auburn team coming off a 13-1 win over Bear River. That game will also be played Thursday.
