The clock is ticking away the last days of 2012, and the newest holiday buzz is what partygoers are planning for New Year’s Eve. Even more pressing – where to pick up a stunning outfit with both style and shimmer to ring in the New Year without breaking the bank.

Denée Adams and Nelly Maltez, owners of Rocklin’s new upscale consignment shop, Transitions Re-Chic Boutique, believe women can look chic and savvy for a fraction of the cost found at higher end retailers.

The professional clothing consultants opened their consignment clothing, handbag, shoe and accessory shop last July in Rocklin Park Plaza on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Park Drive. From light coats to leather belts, vintage mod to faux fur, their mission is to offer women affordable de-signer and one-of-a-kind fashions for all of life’s career, social and maternal transitions.

“We have a large array of holiday dresses right now, and ballroom gowns,” shared Adams, who added that many of their clients travel internationally and bring in exclusive pieces from Europe, Asia and South America. “There are multiple colors, beadings, some are custom-made.”

Transitions Re-Chic Boutique offers a selection of formal and business casual designer pieces and accepts consignment items during business hours, seven days a week with no appointment necessary.

“I think it’s fair that I can speak for a lot of women who have things in their closet that they’ve never worn or that they thought they would wear and they didn’t,” Maltez said. “When they get to bring those items in and sell them and buy something else in exchange for it or get someone else to really love it and wear it, it’s just great. The best thing about our store, we’re pretty particular about the style we like. We like things that are different. We’ll get brands that we’re familiar with, like really high-end designers and brands that are more common, but then we’ll get something in that we’ve never seen before and we’ll research it and find out it came from a boutique in Italy. Every piece has a story. We have a dress that was custom-made in Brazil. We have some jewelry from Thailand.”

Adams and Maltez agree the most difficult part of their job is displaying inventory on their decorative racks and shelves after falling in love with each piece.

“Now we have a large amount of designer handbags that are fresh in and they range from Gucci to Prada and Chloe,” Adams said. “They are all in immaculate condition because they’ve never been worn and that’s the love/hate part of this job is that it’s hard to even put them on the shelf because some of the items are so – I have a loss for words. It’s an exploration every single day. Everybody that comes in brings a bag of treasures for us to go through and we pull out the opulent pieces and have fun with it all.”

Clients who put up their gently used designer items receive payment as soon as their item is sold. There are no fees for early returns and clients have the option of having their fashions returned to them at the end of the term free of charge or they may simply donate their items. Adams and Maltez are proud of their effort to recycle high-quality items designed to last more than a season and encourage shoppers to reclaim great design to save money and promote the green movement.

“As women, we go through so many transitions, be it weight, style, career, and it can become costly shopping retail at department stores,” Adams said. “Women can come in and basically swap out their wardrobe in exchange for great buys we have in the store with savings up to 75 percent off, and sometimes without spending anything because they have store credit from items sold.”

Transitions Re-Chic Boutique carries Target and Old Navy labels and maternity wear. Adams and Maltez also sell perfume, provide makeup consultations and offer in-home closet consulting. Transitions Re-Chic Boutique is open every day.

“It’s like having a little slice of heaven right in your own backyard,” noted customer Hazel Martinez. “You get to go on your own little treasure hunt every time you walk in their store. And (Nelly and Denée) are as unique and beautiful as the clothing they carry.”
