Rocklin charter school secures site

-A +A
Western Sierra Collegiate Academy will have a place to call home for the 2009-10 school year. The seventh- through 12th-grade public charter school recently announced a site for their school. The new college-prep middle and high school will be located at 6900 Destiny Drive in Rocklin. Centrally located off of Highway 65, WSCA will fulfill all of the academic, extracurricular, fine arts and sports needs for the small-school classes, currently enrolling grades seven through nine. This site is already equipped with a full range of classrooms, science lab, full-size gymnasium with a large field and basketball courts for physical education activities. “We have been very fortunate to find such excellent facilities for Western Sierra,” said Executive Director David Patterson. “This is ideal in location, and with fully-operational classrooms and other school amenities secured, we’ll continue to focus on our student’s and teacher’s needs for our opening this August.” Wendy Boyd, chair of the Rocklin Academy Board of Directors, echoed these thoughts by adding, “I’m excited we have found this safe and convenient location to kick off the opening of our small college prep school in Rocklin.” Assemblyman Ted Gaines added his support for WSCA as well. “Families should have the right to determine which school they want their children to attend because they know what situation is best for their children,” he said. “And offering them an alternative represents an important reform to ending the status quo of California’s public school system. There is no doubt the academy will successfully prepare students for the university of their choice and to become active participants and responsible citizens in our community.” For more information and enrollment applications, go to www.wscacademy.org. ~ Staff Report
