Rocklin coach honored for achievement on court
By: Staff Report
Rocklin resident Dede Lay has been awarded the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Coach of the Year award. Dede has been a volunteer coach for Rocklin Recreation since 2008. She has coached her son’s third and fourth grade Rock Creek team in the Shoot the Rock basketball program for the past two seasons. Lay was nominated by the parents and players on her team, who submitted a letter that was included with her nomination, noting her ability to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, ethics and fundamental skill development. She was one of only 32 coaches selected out of 83,000 coaches in the program nationwide and in Canada to receive the award. Lay will be honored along with the other two nominees, Mike McGovern and Reed Matthews, at the upcoming Rocklin Recreation Commission meeting on May 13. She will also receive a Resolution from the City Council on May 26.
