Rocklin cross-country team shines at Woodbridge Classic

IRVINE _ The Rocklin High School varsity boys cross-county squad took second place overall at the 32nd annual Woodbridge Classic Sept. 15. More than 13,000 runners turned out for the 2012 classic, which continues to grow in stature. Thunder junior George Miao came in second in the 3-mile varsity run to lead the Rocklin pack. He missed first by one second to Sean Jagerson of Del Campo. Galen Fritz and Connor Hensley came in at 13th and 14th less than a minute behind Miao. Zachary Skalet crossed the finished line in a time of 16:15 and Ethan Flake and Javier Lopez both stopped the clock at 16:27. That translates to 77 seconds and 14 runners separating Rocklin’s top six athletes. Leading the girls were Erin Greenwood and Lindsey Romeri, who tied for fourth and fifth just 38 seconds behind the winning time of 19 minutes. Crossing the finish line in sixth, seventh, ninth and 11th place were McKayla Burrows, Sydney Strecker, Lauren Fessenden and Sabrina Wilson, respectively. The foursome finished just 40 seconds apart.
