Granite Bay made it a lot tougher for the Rocklin High School girls volleyball team to repeat as Sierra Foothill League champions by handing the Thunder a 3-0 setback last week. The win improved the Grizzlies to 5-0 in league while Rocklin fell to 3-2. “We played really hard, but we need to focus more,” said Thunder head coach Dave Muscarella, who said 5’6” senior Shannon Garvella played well as libero. The loss put the Thunder two games behind the league leaders and in a tie for second with Del Oro and Roseville. Rocklin handily defeated Woodcreek earlier last week winning by no less than 10 points in any of the three sets. The Thunder has five games remaining in which they will play each of their SFL opponents one more time. The regular season will conclude with a rematch with the Grizzlies at Granite Bay. The club’s only other league loss came at the hands of Del Oro, 3-1. All three sets the Thunder lost were by two points. The final match with the Golden Eagles is Oct. 22 at Rocklin.
