Rocklin firefighters head south; police go green

Last week’s Rockin City Council meeting included two brief reports from the Rocklin Fire Department Chief Bill Mikesell and Rocklin Police Chief Mark Siemens regarding updates and awards. A group of Rocklin firefighters were sent to assist with the fires in Southern California, Mikesell said. They were assigned to the line of fire on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The Rocklin Fire Department is reimbursed for assistance they provide. “It’s not about money, it’s about life safety,” Mikesell said. Siemens also brought news to the council members regarding the police department. The department recently won an award for their green building effort. The award recognized their 143-kilowatt solar system in car ports, which includes 536 solar panels and an on-site shooting range that limits off-site trips. Siemens said it’s a statewide and West Coast-wide recognition and “this year was a brand new green effort category.” The award, presented by the California Police Officers Association, was for “Go Green Efforts” within police departments throughout the Western U.S.
