Rocklin Friends of Library work to support new facility
By: Eve Wise, Special to the Placer Herald
The Rocklin Library marked its first anniversary in its new location on Jan. 10. According to Senior Librarian Eve Nyren, “circulation is up 20 percent and we are processing more new library cards than any of the other Placer County Libraries. The new automation has allowed the library to be able to operate with a smaller staff. Even with a reduced materials budget, the support of the Rocklin Friends of the Library has put new books on our shelves and enabled us to continue quality children’s programming.” The Rocklin Friends of the Library is a group of community members who generate community interest and support for library services and facilities. The organization promotes and encourages charitable gifts, which is done largely through used books sales and fundraising events. The Rocklin Friends of the Library would like to say “thank you” to community members who have donated their gently used books and to those who have supported the friends by purchasing books through their ongoing book sale and fundraisers. Without the support of the community the new library would not have been possible. Community support is still needed to help with the new facilities. Recent budget cuts have eliminated state and federal funds for the coming year. There will still be county funds, but those funds are limited because of reduced property taxes. Residents are being encouraged to continue to support and utilize the new library. Community members can also help by donating gently used books, shopping the bookstore or making a cash donation to the Rocklin Friends of the Library. Drop off gently used books in the slot inside the front entrance of the library. Books are available for purchase in the bookstore located to the right of the library entrance. All donations will be used to purchase materials and support programs at the Rocklin Library. The Rocklin Friends of the Library will meet at 10 a.m. on Monday in the Community Room at the library, 4890-Granite Drive. ________ With donations from the public, the Friends of the Library was able to provide the following to the library last year: • $62,072 for books and materials • $4,223 for programs • $51,753 for landscaping and pathway • $39,027 in supplies and equipment.
