Rocklin girls go back-to-back with victories

After winning the past six of seven Sierra Foothill League games, the Rocklin High girls basketball team has clinched a spot in the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs. Tuesday was the Rocklin seniors’ last outing in their home gym. Defeating Granite Bay, 61-37, the girls squad celebrated their graduating players, while displaying focus in order to prevail over the Grizzlies. “It was an emotional night, the last home game. It was a great way to end,” head coach, Rob Ferraro said. The girls played strong defense, holding Granite Bay to under 40 points. Although getting into foul trouble early on, the Rocklin girls were able to hold onto their lead. Freshman Tori Adame gave the Rocklin team valuable time early in the game, and came back again late in the outing. “Last night was really about the seniors,” Ferraro said. Rocklin 63, Nevada Union 39 _ Last Thursday the girls also earned a win against Nevada Union. Again, the Lady Thunder displayed strong defensive capability, contesting shots around the rim and rebounding well. “We played fantastic half court defense,” Ferraro said. Jaimie Curtis played a large role in leading the defense. Senior Joie Camalo played her best game of the year scoring 26 points and going 5-9 in free throws. Heading into the final league game against Woodcreek tonight, the girls are looking to continue their winning streak. They have already secured a place in the playoffs, but look for earn another win to be seeded well. The playoffs begin Tuesday and CIF brackets are to be posted Sunday night.
