The Rocklin High School girls’ varsity basketball team concluded preseason play with a record of 9-8. As shown on Max Preps, the team is currently averaging 53.8 points per game, 30.6 rebounds, and 7.6 assists. “The preseason is necessary for us to get ready. We are aiming for more consistency because the league is very challenging,” said head varsity coach, Rob Ferraro. According to Ferraro, Del Oro hasn’t lost in league in their last 59 games, and Nevada Union, Granite Bay, and Roseville will also be challenging games. The Rocklin squad suffered the loss of six seniors from last season. However, the team is still strong this year, combining a mix of seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen. “Our (9)-8 record is a model of inconsistency. Six of the eight losses have been the difference of one to four points,” Ferraro said. “We just need better plays here and there.” With a mentally strong team, the squad plays a fast-paced game, moving the ball up and down the court quickly. Ferraro allows the players freedom to shoot, without them having to worry about making a mistake. “If they are open and set, I encourage them to shoot,” Ferraro said. The varsity girls’ team is stacked with a trio of point guards, including senior captains Joie Camalo and Kelsey Garvella, along with junior, Shannon Garvella. Lydia Summers, a junior, plays hard as the guard, while Jaimie Curtis, also a junior, 6-6, makes a great defensive mismatch. Coming back healthy this year, senior, Allison Wille uses her size to work the perimeter of the court and is a key defender on the team. “We are a fun team to watch. We may not win, but we enjoy playing in an aggressive style,” Ferraro said. With strong defenders, and a fast-paced offense, the Rocklin team looks forward to beginning their league play.
