Michael Lorente is preparing for a basketball tournament, but he will not be coaching his Rocklin High School boys team. His players in the tournament will be a bit older and far more talented. Lorente will coach the Sac Legends in the 53rd annual Dimes Classic, which will tip off at Rocklin High on April 1. Two of Lorente’s assistants, Troy Selvey and Bennett Davison, will play for the Legends. Several of the 12 teams in the three-day tournament will have former NBA, professional and college players. Selyvey played at Sacramento State and then as a professional in Mexico, England and Romania. Davison was a member of the University of Arizona’s national championship team in 1997. The Legends will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the second of three games. The first begins at 6:15. There will be 10 games Saturday and six Sunday with the first starting at 9 a.m. each day. The championship game will be 5:30 p.m. The Legends are the defending champions in the tournament, which Lorente is hosting for the sixth time. Admission will be $6 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds will benefit Rocklin High’s basketball program.
