Rocklin High sports week in review
SACRAMENTO — The Rocklin High baseball team picked up a couple of wins last week in the Boras Baseball Classic to even their preseason record to 5-5.
The Thunder jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first two innings and then went on the defense to earn a 9-3 decision over Yuba City last Thursday. The Honkers out hit Rocklin 10-9 but couldn’t bring their runners home.
Rocklin’s Griffin Harrell, Andrew Goyhentche, Joey Raymond and Evan Durgarian each had two hits in the game. Logan Webb had a two-run double, Durgarian two runs-batted-in and Nick Adams also doubled.
The boys in blue lost their second and third games in the tournament to Rio Americano 6-1 and Deer Valley (Antioch) 5-4.
The Thunder gave up four runs to the DV Wolverines in the fifth inning to fall behind 5-3 but picked up one in the seventh to make the game close. There were eight errors in the contest.
Rio Americano pushed runs across in every other inning to earn the victory. Rocklin had three hits and three errors. The Raiders had 10 hits.

Rocklin’s Blake Abercrombie fired a 38 over Turkey Creek Golf Club’s front nine along with the matching 39s of Andrew Penny and Sam Harned but the Thunder couldn’t beat host Del Oro’s 189 total March 19.
The Golden Eagles averaged 37.8 among their top five players, Rocklin averaged 39.2.

Rocklin improved to 3-2-1 and remained undefeated in the SFL after picking up a 1-0 win over host Del Oro last Thursday.
The Thunder opened league play with a decisive 4-0 win over Nevada Union March 19.

TRACK AND FIELD
Rocklin’s Leah Carter won the high jump and Christina Dyok was second in the 100-meter high hurdles and fourth in the 300m lows at the Husky Invitational meet at Sheldon High School March 23.
Carter cleared 5-feet 4-inches in the high jump to win that event by two inches. Carter also took seventh in the triple jump going 34-1.
Dyok clocked 15.84 in the highs missing first by less than a second. Her time in the lows was 48.45.
Natalie Cartan was fourth in the long jump (16-6) and Kyleigh Stout fifth in the 400m (1:03.14). Cartan also turned in a 16.49 for fifth in the 100m highs.
Sierra Gosting won the 1600m for frosh/soph girls. Her time was 5:42.24.
For the boys, Dominic Giampaoli and Spencer Gregg jumped 5-6 for eighth in the high jump and Daniel Kniffin was 10th in the long jump spanning 19-7 ¾.
In tournament play, the Thunder dropped a 2-0 decision to St. Patrick/St. Vincent March 16 and earned a 2-0 win over Livermore.
