Rocklin High girls volleyball solidified its second-place position in the Sierra Foothill League by downing both Roseville and Del Oro last week.

Oct. 24, the Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Tigers 25-13, 25-18 but lost momentum and dropped the next two games. However, the girls in blue rallied for a 15-12 victory in the final set for the 3-2 win.

“We are starting to play better as a team,” said Rocklin head coach Dave Muscarella. Muscarella said Jolie Meade and Bethany Mandon had a great week.

Against Del Oro Oct. 22, the Thunder had to go into overtime to defeat the Golden Eagles 27-25 in the first set, only to have the visitors come back for a 26-24 win in the second game. But Rocklin rebounded to sweep the final two games 25-21 and 25-10 to take the match 3-1.

At 5-3, the Thunder will not be able to claim its fifth-straight SFL title, but should make the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs regardless of what happens this week. The top three teams in each league gets an automatic bid and teams with .500 records or better are also invited.

Granite Bay is Division I and the other SFL teams Division II.

The Thunder played Woodcreek (9-16, 0-8 league) Monday and wrapped up the regular season at Granite Bay Wednesday. Del Oro’s last two matches were against Granite Bay and Roseville. The Tigers also played Nevada Union Monday.

Playoffs begin Tuesday, Nov. 6.
