Rocklin Kiwanis Community Festival this weekend

Event to be held at Roseville's Westfield Galleria
-A +A
The Rocklin Kiwanis Club’s third edition of its Community Festival opened for a five-day run Wednesday at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville. Moved from winter to springtime to take advantage of warmer weather, the outdoor event with carnival rides, entertainment, food and beverage, and business booths hopes to draw in excess of 5,000 locals. The event made its debut at The Galleria last year. Family entertainment remains the main attraction. A Ferris wheel will be the major attraction. It may not be the world’s tallest, but at 85 feet in height it will provide a good view of most of Roseville from its uppermost position. Wold Amusements will provide 14 other carnival rides throughout the weekend. Everything will be staged on the Galleria parking lot near the corner of Roseville Parkway and Galleria Boulevard. Last year’s festival was the first major outside activity, other than World Team Tennis, to be held at the Galleria location. Saturday will be the big day for the festival. There will be business vendor booths, a blood mobile to accept blood donations, and a disposal station for old electronics equipment hosted by Erase Your E-Waste. Saturday’s entertainment on stage will be non-stop starting at 11 a.m. On Sunday, an Arts and Crafts Fair will be in session from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will operate from 4 to 10 p.m. today and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. This is the biggest fund-raiser conducted by the Rocklin Kiwanis Club. Since 1994, the local service club has raised money to spend it, primarily on local charities with an emphasis on youth. Chairman Nick Kirk expects to have more than 60 volunteers working the Galleria event. Donations from more than 25 organizations make the event economically feasible for Kiwanis, says Kirk. Major festival sponsors are NewsTalk 1530 KFBK and My925, The Westfield Galleria at Roseville, Thunder Valley Casino Resort, Roseville Auto Mall, Twin Cities MotorSports, Nationwide Insurance, Coca Cola Bottling Company of Sacramento, Rocklin/Roseville Today, Wave Broadband, Nordstroma and Wells Fargo Bank. ~ Staff report
