When Rocklin Kiwanis Club’s 18th Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner takes place Saturday, March l6, there will be some new twists to this the program.
The event will be held at the Rocklin Community Center, 5480 5th St. A no-host happy hour starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
Always a sell-out, this St. Paddy’s party has become a local tradition for Kiwanis. Tickets are $25 and can be ordered by contacting Tom McClelland at (916) 771-7090.
Ron Harder will be master of ceremonies. Cathi Meyers is chairperson. President Lydia Khachadourian plans to have some Key Club members make short presentations, all to show the club’s involvement with youth. Key Clubbers from Rocklin and Whitney high schools will be servers.
Marie Stone and Nancy Shaver will handle decorations. Roxie Bancroft and Cynthia Sindrey will gather and organize items for a silent auction.
An Irish sing-a-along with ukulele background will be led by McClelland and Keith Dumas. Tom Kubicko is running the kitchen, preparing the meal — corned beef and the accompanying works.
For the first time, the labor-intensive baking of a hundred or so loaves of Irish soda bread will not be done by Kiwanian George Rebholtz and Co. this year. The club made a deal with Nugget Markets. Nugget will bake the bread using the club’s recipe.
