Rocklin Library needs donations

-A +A
The Rocklin Library needs the community’s support. On Oct. 2, the current library will be closed and the new, enlarged facility will open by Jan. 10, 2011. The two-story structure will be 16,600 square feet, which is twice the size of the current library, which means there is room to increase the collection and provide 15 computer stations and wi-fi connections. The children’s area will be larger and able to accommodate the high demand for children’s services. Self check out machines will also be available. The Rocklin Friends of the Library is a volunteer support group, which provides supplemental funding for the library. The group has provided funds for children’s and adult programming, the summer reading club, as well as new materials and equipment. The group is now reaching out to the Rocklin community to help with the new facility. With the current economic environment, the materials budget has been cut for the new fiscal year. The average book costs $17 and all donations will help increase the current collection by providing new materials and replacements of worn-out titles. Donations can be mailed to Rocklin Friends of the Library, 5460 Fifth St., Rocklin, CA 95677. The new library will be located at the corner of Rocklin Road and Granite Drive. Mark your calendars for upcoming library events. Sept. 18 — Visit the library’s booth at Hot Chili & Cool Cars to learn more about the new library. Sept. 21 — The Rocklin Friends will be holding the last book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the library community room. All materials will be 25 and 50 cents, or $3 per bag. The regular sales will be resumed after the move. No donations of books will be accepted until then. Oct. 23 — Creek Walk Day — volunteers are needed to help clean and plant in preparation for the library grand opening. For more information, e-mail ~Staff report
