Rocklin PD reaches 5,000 child ID kits

Two-year-old Joseph L. was the 5,000th child to receive a free identification kit by the Rocklin Police Department. Following Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, children and their parents gathered at the Rocklin PD Child ID Program booth to obtain a kit containing a Polaroid picture of the child, hair sample, ink fingerprints and safety kits. The kits are free for residents and the program is set up at many Rocklin community events and has been in use by Rocklin PD since 2003, according to Rocklin PD volunteer Becky Kanowsky. Currently Rocklin PD is using a Polaroid camera for photos, but the film was recently discontinued. In order to keep the program running, Rocklin PD hopes to implement a $6,500 system used by the Sacramento Police Department. For information or to make a donation to help Rocklin PD purchase the system, contact Mike Nottoli at 625-5416 at the Rocklin Police Department. – Lauren Weber
