Just when it appeared Rocklin might slip into third place in the Sierra Foothill League, the Thunder battled back to sweep Nevada Union to remain No. 2. The club also broke open a 7-7 deadlock to take the final game from the Miners 16-8 in eight innings. Rocklin?s Stevin Cisneros was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Cisneros broke open the scoring in the eighth inning when he caught the Nevada Union defense off guard and scored from third base. ?That was an amazing thing,? Rocklin head coach Roc Murray said of the game. ?We are starting to learn again and getting better. It?s fun to be out there right now.? The Thunder recorded 16 hits, none for extra bases. Tanner McVey drove in five runs on three hits and Austin Spainhour had three RBI with two hits; McVey also scored. Also crossing the plate for the boys in blue were Sam Curtis (3), Taylour Feidt (1), Bret Fessenden (1), Evan Durgarian (3), Jake Faulkner (1), Patric O?Keefe (2) and Christian Bennett (3). Bennett also had two hits and O?Keefe drove in two runs. ?There?s excitement at the end of the year, which is really a cool thing,? Murray said. ?At a point we weren?t getting better and now we?re getting better again.? The pitching is where Murray is most concerned going into the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs. Austin Dick has been a workhorse throwing for more than 47 innings; his earned run average is 2.81. McVey has turned in 47 1/3 innings with a 2.37 ERA and Ryan Smith has gone 36 innings carrying a 2.53 ERA into the postseason. Rocklin will open the playoffs 4 p.m. Friday against Rosemont at American River College. Both are No. 2 seeds; the Wolverines are 14-12 and were 10-2 in the Metro League. ?Rosemont is very well coached,? said Murray of Wolverines? head coach Paul Martinez. ?They will do the same things to us that we try to do against other people. I know they will be scrappy.?
