Rocklin remains undefeated in SFL with sweep of Del Oro
The Rocklin varsity baseball team needed extra innings to defeat Del Oro on Saturday. Behind a seven-run eighth inning, the Thunder kept their Sierra Foothill League record perfect with an 8-1 win.
The Thunder moved to the top of the SFL standings with a 6-0 record following back-to-back, three-game sweeps of both Nevada Union and Del Oro. Granite Bay (5-1) and Woodcreek (4-2) are close behind with Nevada Union, Roseville and Del Oro sharing similar 1-5 records to round out the standings.
Heading into the sixth inning down 1-0 to the Golden Eagles, Rocklin’s speedy Ryan Alexander drove in Nick Adams with an infield single to tie the game.
Tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Jake Faulkner made a defensive play that arguably was the one that kept Rocklin’s SFL record spotless.
With Del Oro’s Billy Rockefeller on second base and one out, Bryce Beauchamp drove the ball to shallow center field for what appeared the game-ending hit. Convinced it would be, Rockefeller headed for home.
However, Faulkner made a diving catch of the ball and came up throwing to second base for an 8-4 double play to end the inning. Rockefeller had no chance of getting safely back to second.
The Thunder came up big in the eighth inning on a 2-run hit by Taylour Reidt and doubles by Griffin Harrell and Christian Bennett.
The Thunder will look to keep their SFL streak alive when the team hosts Roseville April 23.
