Undefeated Rocklin High will host the Oakmont Vikings on Friday night. The Thunder are 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the Sierra Foothill League while Oakmont is 5-2 and 1-1. Oakmont went just 2-8 overall and 0-5 in the SFL last year. Rocklin beat Oakmont 29-14 a year ago. “They have definitely improved from last year,” said Rocklin junior quarterback Jimmy Laughrea on Tuesday. “They have some big boys on the (defensive) line and we are preparing.” Laughrea says Rocklin is focused on this week and not next week’s battle with unbeaten Del Oro. “We just take it one week at a time and stay focused,” he said. Rocklin beat Granite Bay 14-7 on Friday night after topping Woodcreek 28-0 in the SFL opener a week earlier. Oakmont beat Roseville 35-28 in its SFL opener and lost 28-6 to Woodcreek on Friday night. Oakmont lost to Foothill in its season opener (16-12) and then beat Pitman of Turlock (35-34), Mesa Verde (34-13), Antioch (28-14) and Davis (27-14) in its other pre-league games. Quarterback Alex Ford (111-for-161, 1,279 yards, 11 touchdowns, two interceptions) has been strong for the Vikings while Fred Mobley (52 catches, 600 yards, five touchdowns) is his top target. Alexander Cook is Oakmont’s leading rusher, with 94 carries for 357 yards and seven touchdowns. Rocklin senior Jackson Cummings has run 131 times for 912 yards (6.96 yards-per-carry) and 15 touchdowns this year.
