Rocklin High’s varsity boys soccer team won 1-0 at Oakmont on Tuesday to improve to 5-4 in Sierra Foothill League action. Rocklin’s Chris Streeter scored in the fourth minute after the ball was deflected in front of the goal. Rocklin goalie Zach Kammerer stopped a diving header off a corner kick to preserve the victory. “Oakmont made a formation switch at the start of the second half to give them another attacking player and provide more opportunities but we were able to lock down and keep them out of the back of the net,” Rocklin coach Grant Depue said. “Chris Streeter was a man among boys in the midfield.” Rocklin will play at Del Oro at 7 p.m. Tuesday and host Nevada Union at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 as SFL action continues. Rocklin lost 3-0 to visiting Roseville on Oct. 15. The Tigers scored their first goal (Tanner Roland) just two minutes into the match and rolled from there. The early advantage allowed the Tigers to deploy a perfectly executed defend and counterattack strategy that made life miserable for Rocklin. The Thunder had numerous scoring chances all day long, but could not squeeze a shot in. The Rocklin day was summed up on the game’s final sequence when a Roseville foul gave Noe Romero a penalty kick from the 12-yard mark. That opportunity was found wanting when Roseville keeper Josh Pulver dove to his left to keep his sheet clean. Roseville’s Alex Both scored in the 19th minute and the 57th minute. Whitney The Wildcats crushed visiting Mesa Verde 9-0 on Monday to remain unbeaten in Pioneer Valley League action at 7-0-2. Whitney (9-2-3 overall) scored four goals in the first half and five in the second. Alex Donofrio, TJ Papenfuss and Eirik Sterri each scored twice for the Wildcats while Jake Brown, Michael Swift and Jordan Gibbs had one goal each. Eddie Arreola had two assists. Whitney tied 1-1 when it played at El Dorado on Oct. 14. The teams also tied in the first round of PVL play in Rocklin on Sept. 21. Swift scored in the first half for Whitney while Matt Winterer had a second-half goal for the Cougars. Whitney is playing at Placer this afternoon and will visit Colfax at 3:30 p.m. next Wednesday. -Kurt Johnson contributed to this report
