LOOMIS _ With a 11-6 record coming in, Rocklin’s chances looked good against the 9-5 Golden Eagles of Del Oro but past glories in the Sierra Foothill League remained with the host last week.

Using height to their advantage, Del Oro kept the Thunder off the boards and outscored the visitors 56-43. Eagles’ senior center Stephanie Geyer pulled down 11 boards (seven offense) and scored 18 points to help the gold-and-black pull away.

“They hurt us on the offensive glass,” said Rocklin head coach Rob Ferraro. Ferraro said his club did force Del Oro into taking some bad shots but getting second and thirds shots helped the Eagles make up for them.

Del Oro had 33 rebounds in the contest, 18 on offense.

In spite of the Golden Eagles’ now 10-7 record, Ferraro said they’re still the ruling class of the SFL. The coach said he now has unenviable task of getting ready to play the Miners at Nevada Union.

“Nevada Union is not an easy place to play,” Ferraro said. “Monday is a critical practice.”

Rocklin, 12-6, was scheduled to play NU Wednesday. They return to host Woodcreek (8-10) Friday.
