Rocklin volleyball wins in playoffs

Vacaville falls 3-0
The Rocklin girls volleyball team defeated Rio Americano, 3-0, Tuesday, to advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section finals, UC Davis, Thursday. The Thunder (33-6, 9-1 league) will go head-to-head with Capital Athletic League champion El Camino (35-3, 15-0 league). Neither club has lost a single match since the beginning of the playoffs Rocklin dispatched Vacaville, 3-0, Thursday to advance in the playoffs. The Bulldogs came in with a 22-8 record, 13-2 in the Monticello Empire League. The club finished second behind Napa in the MEL standings. The second set was Vacaville’s best effort, but it fell well short of keeping up with the Thunder. Rocklin’s powerful front line Sara Sheehy, Erin Davis, Cailyn Prewitt, and Katelyn Ivy proved too much for the Bulldogs to effectively penetrate. The Bulldogs pulled within five at one point, 20-15, but that’s as close as they would get. “We work together so much; we love each other,” Sheehy said as to Rocklin’s frontline dominance. “We put forth 100 percent, and there’s so much trust, we all know everybody can get their job done.” That confidence has allowed the Thunders’ backcourt to work to near perfection in setting up an attack most teams simply cannot stop. Rocklin committed just six service errors, while the ‘Dogs struggled with their serves. Thunder head coach Dave Muscarella was able to use his entire bench in the match, but little, if any, letdown was noticeable in Rocklin’s play. “We’re playing pretty well right now,” said Muscarella. “The way that we practice, we split everybody up, we go after each other every day in practice and I think it just kind of brings everybody up together. And I think that helps when you get in a situation where you have to replace somebody.” E-mail Placer Herald Sports at email@example.com Rocklin 3, Vacaville 0 Bulldogs 14 17 11 Thunder 25 25 25 ROCKLIN Attacks – S Sheehy 21, K Ivy 20, C Prewitt 14, E Davis 13.
