ELK GROVE _ The Rocklin High girls basketball team picked up two wins at the Cartwright Classic basketball tournament last week
ROCKLIN 66, NAPA 54
Freshman Jordan Purvis had a career night in the Thunders’ final game Saturday scoring 20 points, including a 3-pointer. Sophomore Kelsey Summers also went hard to the basket to score 15 points as the girls in blue picked up their second win of the tournament and season.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Solomon took over the boards with 10 rebounds followed by junior Ariana Hildan’s seven. Rocklin had 34 caroms in all and 13 steals. The club committed 25 turnovers.
FLORIN 64, ROCKLIN 51
The Panthers jumped out to an early 23-10 lead and hung on for the victory.
The Thunder battled back to close the gap to 46-42 at the end of three quarters, but couldn’t answer an 18-9 run by Florin in the final stanza.
Summers and Purvis again did the bulk of the scoring putting up 14 and 11 respectively. Both had two 3-pointers in the contest.
Solomon added eight points to Rocklin’s totals and Jamie Curtis and Jade Casey each tallied five.
ROCKLIN 59, ELK GROVE 35
The Thunder used a stifling defense and a solid scoring attack to overwhelm the host Thundering Herd 59-35 in the tournament opener.
Senior Lydia Summers, who missed the final two games, scored 10. Kelsey Summers was high point for Rocklin with 14 and Hildan contributed eight. Nine Thunder players scored in the game.
Rocklin pulled down 27 rebounds with Lydia Summers gathering five and Jade Casey and Lauren Clark each had four. Casey and Clark are both sophomores.
The Thunder improved to 2-1 on the season but did lose to Oak Ridge in the Foundation Game played Nov. 26. Foundation games are fundraiser for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section and are not included in a participating team’s overall record.
The girls in blue were host to Christian Brothers Tuesday and play at Bella Vista Monday.
