Thursday, May 13 “Finishing Strong” retirement celebration to honor Bryce Jessup will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Bryce Jessup has served 25 years as president. The retirement celebration begins with a reception with Jessup and his wife. The dinner and program starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person. Info: www.jessup.edu/finishingstrong or 577-1803. A food drive will be held through the month of May. Join Robinson’s Tae Kwon Do Family Food Drive by donating four cans of vegetables to any of the 18 area locations including Rocklin. Friday, May 14 Senior Video Day will be showing “Amelia,” rated PG. Hilary Swank and Richard Gere star in biopic tracing the life of famed aviator Amelia Earhart — who made history in 1932 by becoming the first woman ever to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The movie will show in room 106 at Rocklin Community Services at 1 p.m. Info: 625-5221. St. Joseph Church Charity golf tournament will be held at the Turkey Creek Golf Course in Lincoln. The scramble tournament begins with registration at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. There will be three flights for men, women and mixed foursomes. The golf package includes golf fees, range balls, lunch, snacks and water, followed by dinner and prizes. Local artists will show their work at a city of Rocklin sponsored third annual Rocklin Fine Art Membership Show to be held at the Rocklin Community Center, 5480 Fifth St. next to the library. Second annual BBQ/Casino/Poker Tournament Night, Armed Forces Day will be held to honor our military. This event will be held at the Roseville Veteran’s Memorial Hall at 110 Park Drive by Royer Park in Roseville from 5:30 -10 p.m. There will be a silent auction, raffle prizes and music by Mike Branson. Cost is $15 for barbecue dinner only, $40 for barbecue dinner and casino. Community Showcase, presented by the 2009-10 Leadership Rocklin Class with the Rocklin Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fountains at Roseville. The showcase will feature 30 South Placer County nonprofit agencies. Visit with the agencies and learn about ways you can get involved including volunteer and donation opportunities. If you visit all 30 agencies and have your “passport” stamped, you will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 Fountains gift card. Sunday, May 16 Tri-the Rock Youth Triathlon will be held at Whitney High School. The youth triathlon is for ages 5-14 and is recreation-based and will include running, biking and swimming. Hear stories at Saint Mary’s Chapel on Front Street in Rocklin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 Rocklin Friends of the Library book sale will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Rocklin Public Library, 5460 Fifth St. Book sale proceeds support the summer reading club and programming for children and adults. Thursday, May 20 Signe King Memorial to benefit Placer Breast Cancer Endowment will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. at La Provence, located at 110 Diamond Creek Place, Roseville. Tickets are available for $80 per person and $150 per couple, which includes dinner, live music, wine tasting and raffle.
