Rocklin's Miao nearly breaks cross country record

GRASS VALLEY_Rocklin High cross-country runner George Miao almost broke a seven-year school record during the Thunder’s second Sierra Foothill League meet last week at Nevada Union High School. At 16:18, the junior runner was just 18 seconds off the record time set by Tim Cannon in 2005. Miao, who finished third individually, led the Rocklin boys to first place at 45 points; Woodcreek followed with 51 points, Del Oro 83, Roseville 84, Nevada Union 113 and Granite Bay 141. Del Oro dominated the varsity girls with 36 points. Rocklin came in fourth totaling 88 points. Granite Bay was second and Woodcreek third. Nevada Union and Roseville rounded out the field The frosh/soph girls garnered 54 points for second. Del Oro tallied 23 points for first, Woodcreek (57) third, followed by Nevada Union and Granite Bay. Roseville did not complete the race as a team. The frosh/soph boys claimed third with 68 points. Del Oro ran to victory with 27 points and Woodcreek was second scoring 59. Nevada Union, Granite Bay and Roseville followed in that order. The third league meet is scheduled for Oct. 26 at William Jessup University.
