By: Staff Report
Eight-year-old Julia Mamayev of Roseville took the top spot on the podium at a Tahoe League Race Series giant slalom event at Sugar Bowl last Saturday. The Rocklin Academy third-grader delivered the second-fastest run time of the day her first time down the course with a 47:52 and her cumulative run time (1:37:02) for the two trips beat her nearest competitor by more than three seconds. Mamayev trains with the Auburn Ski Club every weekend and also participates in mid-week sessions. The Tahoe League features ski racers who train at all of the Tahoe Basin resorts. “This was a huge success for her,” said her coach, Lindsay Dowd of the Auburn Ski Club. “It will be a nice confidence builder for her as she moves on to other competitions.” Sarah Hudson of Sugar Bowl finished second at the event, followed by Jaequeline Mellor of Squaw Valley in third.
