Roseville's Moss to receive Nike Scholar-Athlete award
Devin Moss of Roseville will receive a Nike Scholar-Athlete award at 2 p.m. today at House of Hoops on the Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento.
Moss, a junior guard at Rocklin High School, first will take part in a basketball clinic at Natomas High School with Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings and former Monarchs player Ticha Penicheiro, among others. Moss was nominated for the camp through a leadership academy with the Kings he attended, according to Rocklin coach Mike Lorente.
Moss, who attended Cooley Middle School in Roseville, has a 4.2 grade-point average, according to Lorente.
“He can play, but better kid, better student,” Lorente said.
Radanof wins again
Brett Radanof of Roseville won the 12k race at the Sierra Nevada Endurance Run for the second year in a row.
Radanof said his time of 52 minutes, 59 seconds, which was quicker than his winning time of 54:08 in 2010, was deceiving. It was a different course for the Sept. 24 race.
“It was more difficult this year,” Radanof said Thursday, noting that just a half-mile or so into the race, “You have to go basically straight up this cliff (Mooney Ridge).”
From there, the field then had to hop over granite rock and deal with railroad ties.
“You couldn’t get into a fluid rhythm,” Radanof said, adding the tougher course slowed his trained-for 6:30 mile pace to about seven minutes.
Radanof won by nearly 10 minutes. Runner-up Darryl Moxley of Loomis was timed in 1:02.33.
