Kevin Brown, superintendent of the Rocklin Unified School District, was honored in October as one of 43 inductees into the California Interscholastic Federation Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame recognizes athletes, coaches, administrators, officials and media members in the Central Valley, and was organized “as a means of preserving and promoting the heritage of interscholastic sports in California,” according to a CIF media release. Individuals honored have made extraordinary contributions to high school sports.

Brown’s passion for athletics was instilled in him as a young man, when he was a star basketball player at Woodland High School. Since then, he has been involved with the Sac-Joaquin section for 29 years, serving on the Board of Managers for 16 years and as realignment chair for six years, along with serving on several section appeals panels and the section budget committee. Brown was the Delta League president from 1983-1993 and was district athletic director for the Folsom-Cordova School district for three years. He has been with RUSD since 1996, and was named superintendent in 1998.

“Being inducted into the California Interscholastic Federation is both humbling and greatly appreciated,” Brown said. “High school athletics were very influential in my adolescent development. The values, camaraderie and lessons learned have served me well throughout my adulthood.”

This was the second Hall of Fame class; the inaugural class had 56 members. Inductees were selected by a panel after months of research and include Steve Sax, a football and baseball standout at Marshall High School who signed with the LA Dodgers out of high school and had a 14-season career in Major League Baseball; and Suzy Dowell, a Downey High School basketball and track and field star who represented the United States in the Olympics in 1996, 2000 and 2008.

“Kevin Brown’s induction into the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame was a recognition of his outstanding lifetime service for the past 30 years to the organization that administers high school athletics within the state of California,” said Pete Saco, CIF Sac-Joaquin Section commissioner. “We, as an organization, need the voluntary help of our school administrators for the organization to be successful. Kevin is regarded as one of the top administrators within CIF.”

Brown was recognized for his CIF work with the Distinguished Service Award in 2007.

“It is a great organization that supports coaches, athletes and school communities through overseeing and governing high school athletics,” Brown added. “It has been an honor to serve this organization over the past 29 years.”
