The Granite Bay Basketball Academy presents Saturday skill sessions beginning Sept. 12 at Granite Bay High School. The goal of Saturday skill sessions is the improvement of every player. Participants will learn new basketball skills and discover what it takes to improve as a player. Athletes will be coached in specific drills and shown effective techniques in a positive and motivating environment. The daily team games will allow players the opportunity to put to practical use everything they’re taught. Anyone preparing for your upcoming season or who wants to be pushed to their full potential won’t want to miss a single session. The program runs from Sept. 12 through Oct. 17, with boys holding court from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and the girls taking over from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. This program is for players of all skill levels between the ages of eight and 17. Attendees will receive instruction to improve their game at both ends of the court. Defensive skill sessions will work on stance, slides, closeout, guarding screeners, jumping to the ball, blocking out and rebounding. At the offensive end, the workouts will stress skill moves (sweep, jab step, shot fake, blast), shooting technique, passing, dribbling, middle cuts, 7 cuts and proper screening. Granite Bay High assistant Jimmy Carroll will lead this high-energy camp. Carroll is a former Division I and professional player. The cost to participate is $100 for the entire program, or a $25 drop-in fee for one-time participants. For information, contact Carroll at 530-613-2407 or by e-mail at
