As many of you are aware, my husband Jim is a golf-fanatic! I consider myself a “golf widow” most weekends and consider Jim’s golf obsession a key to the success of our long-term marriage. Once a year though, Jim and I join forces on the golf course as we celebrate our support of local students at Scramble for Scholars. In May, the Rocklin Area Chamber of Commerce and Randy Peters Catering & Event Planning will once again host one of the area’s most successful golf tournaments, Scramble for Scholars. This annual fundraising event benefits graduating seniors from Rocklin, Victory and Whitney high schools by awarding educational scholarships to deserving students. With education being one of the main tenets of Rocklin’s continued prosperity, now more than ever, we need the community’s support to make this event successful. Since its inception, Scramble for Scholars has raised more than $100,000 in support of higher education for local students. This event engages not only the business community, but parents, families and residents as well – all to help defray the costs of higher education for Rocklin seniors. Scramble creates a lasting legacy for Rocklin students, while promoting economic and workforce development at the same time. Scheduled for Friday, May 7, the Scramble for Scholars golf tournament will be held at Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin. Registration begins at noon with networking and boxed lunches, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The boxed lunches and dinner are provided by the award-winning Randy Peters Catering & Event Planning. As the title sponsor for this year’s event, we are so grateful to Randy Peters Catering & Event Planning for their continued support of the tournament, making this their sixth consecutive year as sponsors. Dave Brockway of Edward Jones has generously stepped up as the tournament’s Dinner Sponsor. New this year, Scramble golfers will have a chance to win a 2010 Porsche Boxster or a 2010 Land Rover LR2! Niello Porsche and Land Rover Rocklin have generously donated two vehicles as prizes for the Hole in One contest they’re sponsoring. On two separate par 3 holes, golfers who hit a hole in one at either hole will have the opportunity to win a 2010 Porsche Boxster or a 2010 Land Rover LR2. If you are interested in sponsoring the Scramble for Scholars event, opportunities range in price from $200 for a Hole sponsorship to $10,000 for a Title sponsorship. The popular Corporate sponsorship is available for $1,000. Auction and raffle donations are also needed and get involved in the community. Dinner tickets are available for $50 per person for those non-golfers who still want to attend the dinner and be part of the raffle, auction and awards excitement. But act quickly; this event sells out every year. For more information on how to secure a sponsorship, register for the event or make a donation, contact the Rocklin Chamber at 624-2548 or online at Please come out and join us for this great community event.
