Sierra Christian Church celebrates anniversary

-A +A
On Sunday, Jan. 23, Sierra Christian Church is celebrating its 25th anniversary of ministry in the Rocklin-Loomis area. In December 1985, 83 persons signed the charter forming the new congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Northern California-Nevada. The congregation soon purchased five acres of a former horse farm on Rocklin Road in Loomis. With the assistance of a class at Sierra College, the horse barn was converted into a chapel and worship center for the congregation. Located at 5645 Rocklin Road, the congregation has continued to minister to families in Rocklin and Loomis ever since. At 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 23, the Rev. Dr. Ben Bohren, regional minister of the Christian Church in Northern California-Nevada, will be preaching at the service. Following the service a light luncheon will be served for all who are present. At this time the 10 charter members still living in Rocklin and active in the congregation will be recognized for their long years of service. There will also be read communications from former members now living elsewhere. All interested persons are invited to attend, according to the current pastor, Rev. William “Bill” Garrett. For more information or to reserve a space for the luncheon call (916) 624-8733. ~ Staff report
