Sierra College celebrates Pride Days

-A +A

It was three days of fun, education and community last week as Sierra College hosted Pride Days on the Rocklin campus. The event, intended to celebrate LGBTQ achievements and spotlight equality challenges, featured student clubs and organizations staffing informational tables, free HIV testing and fundraising for BRAVE — Bullies Really Are Violating Everyone.

Speakers included LGBQT rights advocates George Raya and Ron Williams; Lisa Ford Berry, who shared the story of her son’s bullycide and the creation of BRAVE; and keynote speakers Pat Thompson and Barb Brass, who shared their story of being lesbians in the military under Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell. The events concluded with a student and faculty drag show, the proceeds of which benefited the Spectrum Committee, whose mission includes improving the success and retention of Sierra College’s LGBTQ students, as well as ensuring them a safe campus climate.
