Sierra College presents ‘Veterans Stand Together’
Sierra College invites the public to “Veterans Stand Together,” a free family-friendly event to celebrate the homecoming of recently returning veterans, and to introduce them to veteran resources, networking opportunities and support services as they transition from military to college and beyond.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Sierra College, 5000 Rocklin Road.
“On this occasion, as a campus and community we celebrate their experiences and their voluntary sacrifices,” according to a press release from the college.
Sierra College Veterans Task Force, with the support of Veterans Affairs, Cal Vet, various local businesses and nonprofit organizations, has teamed up to launch the inaugural event.
Attendees can cheer on student veterans as they compete in a Veterans Kick Ball Tournament between local colleges. More than 50 local, county, state and federal agencies will provide information and interactive services for veterans and their families.
Sierra College President Willy Duncan will be on hand to open the event with welcoming remarks and share the college’s vision for a Veterans Resource Center. The VRC will offer comprehensive services from the time vets enter Sierra College until they transition into their chosen career paths and/or transfer programs.
Sacramento State University ROTC will post colors. There will be a barbecue pulled pork lunch prepared by veteran owned and operated L.B. Soul Food Catering (suggested donation of $7 per meal is requested).
The Sierra College Veterans Task Force encourages veterans in the community to join in the fun and take away some valuable information. This family- friendly event will also host a children’s mini-carnival with activities.
Free parking will be available for all participants.
